Bio

Justin Lee Miller has worked across a wide range of artistic disciplines. A graduate of the University of Michigan’s Musical Theatre department, Justin went on to perform on Broadway in My Fair LadyThe Phantom of the Opera, and On the Town. He studied voice with the late Shirley Verrett and has appeared at many of the world’s leading opera houses including Los Angeles Opera, Opera Comique Paris, Lyric Opera Chicago, New Orleans Opera, Atlanta Opera, and countless others across Europe. He made his operatic debut in the role of Porgy in Porgy and Bess at the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna, Italy at age 28. 

Some of his favorite projects include Sunday in the Park with George (The Guthrie), Kismet (City Center Encores!), Ragtime (Paper Mill Playhouse), Oklahoma! (Portland Center Stage), Don Giovanni (Neighborhood Opera Pittsburgh), The Music Man (Arena Stage), Floyd Collins (Weston Playhouse), Show Boat performed in German (Bad Hersfelder Festspiele), Porgy and Bess (Metropolitan Opera), The Christmas Rose (Carnegie Hall), Sweeney Todd (New York Philharmonic/PBS), and Camelot starring Lin-Manuel Miranda (Lincoln Center Theater). Justin can be heard on the 2018 Broadway cast recording of My Fair Lady and the 2006 Decca recording of Porgy and Bess.

Justin currently serves as the Director of Musical Theatre at Interlochen Center for the Arts where he oversees programs for both the camp and the academy. His duties include teaching, directing, curriculum development, and administration.

Justin’s forthcoming writing projects include a stage adaptation of Passing by Nella Larsen and a new novel.
